Auditions for Crazy For You

The Elkader Opera House Players are excited to bring the classic Gershwin musical Crazy For You to the stage in October 2025! This high-energy show is packed with cowboys, showgirls, romance, and big Broadway-style numbers, making it a fantastic production to be part of.

Auditions will be held on May 20 and 21 at 6 PM at the Elkader Opera House. You only need to attend one night. Auditions will include singing, dancing, and acting—no preparation needed. Just bring a list of your conflicts from June through October.

The show has roles for high school and up, and we welcome all levels of experience. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or stepping on stage for the first time, we’d love to see you there!

Performances are October 3, 4, 10, 11 at 7 PM and October 5, 9, 12 at 2 PM.

• POLLY BAKER – Leading Lady, mezzo, aged 20 – 40. Polly is the only female living in Deadrock. Needs to be a good tapper and ballroom dancer with a strong voice
• LOTTIE CHILD – Non singing female role aged 55 – 75. Lottie is Bobby’s controlling mother. She is a very bossy and overbearing woman
• IRENE ROTH – Supporting mezzo role, aged 25 – 45 . Bobby’s domineering fiancée engaged to him for 5 years. She has to change and become a seductive vamp in her number
• TESS – Female follies dance director aged 18 – 35 who is pursued by Zangler even though he is married. Tess sings and dances with the other follies girls so must be a good tapper
• PATSY – Female follies girl aged 18 – 30, “dumb” blonde role . Patsy has a high pitched speaking role and sings and dances with the other follies girls. Also needs to be a good tapper
• PATRICIA FODOR – Eugene’s English sister, cameo role soprano, aged 32 – 60 and fellow tourist.
• FOLLIES GIRLS – 8 or 10 strong singing and tapping girls including Tess and Patsy. All must be good singers and dancers
• FEMALE ENSEMBLE – General chorus of New Yorkers and Backstage workers

• BOBBY CHILD – Leading Man, baritone, aged 25- 40. Bobby is a New Yorker in love with musical theatre. Needs to be a strong singer, actor, tapper and ballroom dancer for his “Fred and Ginger” type numbers with Polly
• BELA ZANGLER – Male supporting role, baritone, aged 35 – 65 with a Hungarian accent. Zangler is an established New York musical producer. Needs to be a good comedy character actor and singer
• LANK HAWKINS – Supporting male role, aged 30 – 45, Rather gruff owner of the Deadrock Saloon. Sings in many of the chorus numbers. Good mover would be useful
• EVERETT BAKER – Male baritone, Polly’s father, aged 55 – 75. Small amount of singing and movement
• EUGENE FODOR – Male baritone, cameo role, aged 40 – 65, an English tourist. He needs to be able to move well
• MOOSE, MINGO, SAM – All aged 14 – 35, all have small dialogue and form the Cowboy Trio. Good dancing/movement
• JIMMY,BILLY, WYATT, JUNIOR—all aged 14 – 35. All these men have lines of dialogue and need to be dancers to partner the follies girls.
• MALE ENSEMBLE – General chorus of New Yorkers, Backstage workers and Citizens of Deadrock
