A mix of cutting-edge, funny, and touching musical numbers are headed to the Opera House stage this March in their “Music & Comedy Cabaret.” Six performers will be taking the stage to provide an hour of music and entertainment. But it’s not just any typical variety show.

“We like to keep things fresh and exciting, so we really keep that in mind when choosing the songs. Some of these performances are going to be absolutely hilarious while other songs you can just sit back and listen to the beautiful melodies. And there’s a little bit of dance in there too!” says organizer and Opera House Players member Cheri Moser.

Performers include four young and talented veteran Opera House Players: Kristy Fleming (Dyersville), Eric Layden (Des Moines), Jonathon Moser (McGregor), and Chelsy Suddendorf (LaCrosse). The troupe is also welcoming two students who are currently attending Minnesota State University to get their MFA in musical theater: Erin Horst and Adam Yankowy. Yankowy was recently an Irene Ryan Finalist at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. He also went on to win Best Musical Theatre Actor. At the same festival, Horst was awarded Best Partner. The two were also part of a quartet that was selected to perform at the National Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in April. But first, they are both excited to be come to Elkader and join the cast for the Cabaret.

“The Opera House is such a beautiful place, why would anyone say “no” to performing on that stage? Plus, the songs we are performing are all really fun to sing. We can’t wait to see the audience reaction,” says Horst.

The Opera House Players say they offer this FREE performance as a gift to their patrons. And while it’s part of the city’s “Ladies Day Out” festivities, Moser says this show is for everyone.

“It’s very man, woman, and family friendly. ” says Moser.

You can catch the performance at the Opera House on Saturday, March 14th at 5:30pm.

Billed as the funniest show in New York by Liz Smith of the New York Post… The comedy has audiences rolling in the aisles. The second act has a show-within-a-show spoof of “Private Lives” with everybody in the wrong costumes reading the wrong lines. This has to be one of the most hysterical things ever put onstage. I have seen Moon Over Buffalo three times! I expect you to see it once.” Moon over Buffalo marked Carol Burnett’s triumphant return to Broadway after 30 years (for which she received a Tony Award nomination).
